Based on the current unemployment rate, a lot of people theorize that society’s emphasis on a normal college degree, no matter in what field, is no longer working. Not everyone is cut out for the standard 4 year college education, and the vast majority of liberal arts majors will likely never find work in their field. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, using previous growth and data, suggests that “middle-skill jobs” (defined by them as jobs that require some significant education and/or training beyond high school but less than a full bachelor’s degree) will make up approximately 45% of all job openings through 2014. Considering that the remaining jobs fall on either side of that definition, “middle-skill jobs” are projected to make up the majority of the job openings this year.
